Sono Japanese Restaurant

DSCN3870

I'm still reminiscing about the delightful and gorgeous Japanese cuisine at Sono. Conveniently located at Tattersalls Building amongst the busy Queen Street mall in Brisbane. Very grateful to some friends that recommended Sono during my time in the sunshine state.

What started out as a nice dinner venue, we returned again to try their lunch menu. The dinner menu and selection were spectacular. As a simple rule of the thumb, I always cast a keen eye on an establishment's menu. This time round, I was looking for a place serving authentic Japanese cuisine. Unfortunately I didn't bring my camera but with hindsight I was glad as we enjoyed a relaxed meal with meticulous service from all Japanese wait staff.

In addition to the impressive menu, Sono also serves seasonal and monthly specials created by their team of chefs. We fell in love with Sono and promised to return again.

Whisky Tasting Evening

DSCN3564

I had the chance to attend a special whisky tasting evening that was organised by the local aficionados society. The event showcased New Zealand's only single malt whisky - Milford. Distilled and bottled in the South Island, the liquid gold was originally produced at Willowbank Distillery in Dunedin. Unfortunately the distillery was later sold and production discontinued. Milford brand was created by The New Zealand Malt Whisky Co after securing the remaining single malt that are still ageing in the oak barrels.

The tasting session was guided and interestingly presented by the owner of The Whisky Shop in Auckland. Tasting and appreciating whisky is like getting to know a new person! Takes time. The vertical tasting included 10 yr old, 12 yr old, 18 yr old and limited edition single cask. My favorite was the 18 yr old Milford. I paired the Milford whisky with a very nice Cohiba Siglo VI.

Snippets of Auckland photolog

Auckland was blessed with nice sunny days over the weekend. It was certainly a nice break from cold and wet days during the working week. Took out the outdoor chair and fired up a Por Larranaga petite corona. Match the classic habano marque with some Glenfiddich 15 yrs old Solero single malt. More about this next time.

Back to the summer theme, here are some photos around Auckland. Enjoy !

Why not blog....welcome !!

I'm joining the blogging band wagon. Why not aye ! Looking out of the window on a nice early winter's day, I can see one of the last few parcels of farm land in metropolitan Auckland. Kinda nice to still able to see dairy cows gazing on the green pastures amidst industrial and hi-tec manufacturing companies.

The rest of the country refer Aucklanders as Jaffa. I admit this city of sails have its fair share of deficiencies and criticism but I call Jaffa Land home. After some travel and time spent in various places, there aren't too many places in the world I would rather be...
